2011 SUCCESS STORIES

MOCHA

Mocha (formally Monka), has a new home and is fitting right in with her new family! Her new mom Margaret says:" We could tell right away how much Monka has been loved....After exploring some, she played & loved on us...not for sure who enjoyed it the most, our son or my husband...she fell asleep watching TV w/ Easton & Brian!"

BRUTUS and BIANCA

Take a look at Brutus with his forever mom, Bianca.  Brutus came to the rescue as a stray.  A friend of the dog coordinator’s found Brutus on a hot day.  She started to try and cool him down and called FFAS.  We rushed right over and saw the most adorable Bulldog.  Thanks to Shannon, who was able to squeeze him at her house.   When no one claimed him we put him up for adoption.  His first Saturday at Petsmart Bianca just happened to stop by and see him.  Unknown to us at the time but Brutus tested positive for heartworms.  We called Bianca and they were willing to wait.  He started treatment right away but wasn’t being calm at his foster home with the other dogs around so we did something we don’t usually do but we called Bianca and asked if they’d like to foster Brutus until he’s heartworm negative.  Lucky for everyone they were very happy to do that.  Brutus is now heartworm negative and living the life.  He gets to go to work with Bianca and we’ve had several people call the rescue saying they wanted a dog just like Brutus but there’s only one Brutus!!!!

BLUE and MARCIA

Here is Blue (formally Slate) with his new mom, Marcia....he has led a hard life, was returned twice through no fault of his own and has now found a forever home! Here is what Marcia has to say about Blue:

Slate (I call him Blue due to his coloring, the fact that he was such a sad sack for the first week, and because he seems to like my rendition of “Blue Moon”, if you can believe that!) and I are doing well. It’s been a little over 2 weeks and although he is not the love-me-do-what-you-will-to-me kind of cat, he is a sweet boy, loves to play, and is becoming closer and more trusting of me every day. In fact, he is asleep on my lap at this very moment and has been all morning....I think he is very happy – letting me pick him up so many times with a camera flash in his face says a lot about his trust level. He is a great companion – well-mannered, loves to play, and then lay in my lap once he exhausts himself. Thanks again for everything, Marcia.

DEXTER

I would like for everyone to meet the newest member of the family, Dexter Courtland McDowell. He is about a year and a half old, and we adopted him from Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary. Apparently, he was an unwanted pet, and his owner left him on a river bank to live with a colony of feral cats. Unfortunately, poor Dexter didn't have the skills to survive in such a competative environment. Luckily, one of the people who routinely fed the colony noticed that Dexter was starving to death, so she brought him to Freedom Farm. That's where we found him. He's a bit traumatized from living with the feral cats, but he's a great fur baby!! Welcome, Dexter!!  Here’s Dexter in his Halloween costume.

MAGIC

This is Magic in her new home! Here's what her new family, Janet and Arwen, say about her:

"Magic become a part of our family! She has made herself at home with us and other than a little discord with our older cat, to be expected, she is more than happy. She has even made "friends" with our pet rat, Bootsy McCall!"

MACK

Meet Mack with his new mom.  Mack has been in the program for almost 2 years.  We have several families interested in him but it never worked out.  October seemed to be the month for long term foster's to be adopted.   It doesn't manner had long the dogs/cats have been in the program, FFAS will take care of them until we find their forever home.  Mack is an example of that

CRICKET

Here's Cricket with his new mom.  Cricket came into the program from a lady who said she could no longer financially take care of him.  She told us Cricket was 7 years old.  When his foster mom picked him up, he barely had any hair.

She told the foster mom that he spent much of his time in a crate.  How sad for a very sweet and personable dog.  We've had Cricket for several months.  He has the most adorable under-bite.  Here's another picture of Cricket from his new mom after she had him groomed.

BUFFY

Meet Buffy and her new mom.  Buffy was rescued by Wes Roach. She was at a shelter and had been hit by a car and had a broken leg. Thanks to Wes and Merle's Angels, Buffy had her surgery and recovered nicely with her foster mom Shannon Marie Minor Atkinson. Buffy's story was on the news and we had several good applications on her. After interviewing the homes FFAS decided to Alisha Bennett was a perfect fit for Buffy. Alisha was going to have brain surgery soon and was looking for a lap dog and Buffy fits the bill.  Buffy is now known has “Buffy the seizure slayer”  Ms. Bennett said that Buffy came in and fit right in and she sleeps with Alisha.

BLOO

Bloo is doing wonderful! We really love him, along with all of the other critters and family members. Bloo has really began to shed his old shell and has become quite the talented dog. He has learned to sit, lay down, shake, and heel and has recently discovered well, his herding instinct. We are thinking of taking Bloo to a herding trainer here in KY to get some lessons and possibly start him in some small competitions this summer. He is SO smart. At first Bloo had horrible anxiety problems and cried everytime i would even step on the otherside of the wall, but Bloo is now building confidence and becoming a new dog. I believe Bloo is happy and loves his new life, because we sure do love him.

GIZMO

This is Gizmo with his new brother Gage.  Gizmo was rescued by a wonderful lady (who just happens to be very talented artist) along with his brother Shorty just running loose and very dirty.  No one ever claimed the boys so their foster mom contacted FFAS.  Shorty was adopted first but that's just because the Walker family hadn't seen Gizmo yet.  After being adopted Gizmo even went to Louisiana with the family for a nice vacation.  Looks like he's fitting right in.

SHEP

Shep has found his forever home thanks to his foster mom, Pamela.  Shep will live in the country with his new mom Polly, what more could you ask for?  Pamela found Shep running as a stray but not anymore.  Shep fit right in at Pam's place with her pack.  Pam even taught Shep many tricks and how to become a house dog, she even carried him to work with her.  I don't think Shep will have to worry any more about being loved.

Mr. JIGGLES

Here's an update from Uno (now Mr. Jiggles) new family.
This past weekend, many of you know my mom adopted a new dog into the family. We have had a lot of questions about how he is doing and/adjusting with the two other bigger dogs and a cat....look at this photo and I think it will answer your questions! HE IS SPOILED ROTTEN!!
In case you can't tell - those are argyle socks...plain ones would NOT do!

YOGI

Here's Yogi (was Rebel) with his new mom.  Rebel came into the program with other Pomeranian named Simba.  Rebel and Simba were dumped were put in a cardboard box and dumped in the parking lot of a Doctor's office.  FFAS was called and ask if we could help with these two and of course we couldn't say no.  We think Rebel is 4 years old while Simba is 9-10 years old and still looking for a home.  Rebel didn't even make it to the web site.  A family member of the foster home's fell in love with Rebel and as you can see he's being spoiled.  No more cardboard boxes for this fella.

AMBER

It was nice meeting you on Sunday and I wanted to send you a picture of Amber with her new best friend Smudges.  You were right, it did take a few days for them to warm up but they are now best buds and yesterday was the first picture I got of them together!  Now they sleep together and have fun playing.  Amber is such a wonderful kitty!  She is very loving and sweet.  I think my Daughter made a great choice!  I just wanted you to know that everything was going great and thank you again for all of your help!
Lisa

LILY

Take a look at Lily in her forever home.  Lily came from a hoarder.  She and her brother, Flipper (who's still up for adoption) ended up at Cheatham County Animal Control.  When FFAS went looking to rescue another pup for a foster home, we just couldn't take one. Both came into the program.  Lily's family came to Petsmart several times looking for the perfect dog.  Lily wasn't there when they first stop by but they saw her picture on one of our cards and called back to set up a meeting.  Lily looks a lot like their other dog (which is a rescue).  Well, as you can see Lily fits right in.

TRIPP

This is Tripp in his new home.  Tripp came from the Memphis Animal Shelter.  He was found as a stray with a broken leg.  When the dog coordinator saw there was an Akita mix puppy needing help she found a foster home with her parents, who already have 2 Akita's, one being from the Memphis Shelter.  Lucky for everyone there's a wonderful lady named Lee in Memphis who is an animal advocate and stepped up to help Tripp and FFAS.  Lee pulled Tripp and took him straight to her vet, who x-ray Tripp's leg and put him in a cast.  The foster parents drove half way to meet Lee and pick up Tripp.  After a couple of months in a cast, Tripp was x-rayed again and neutered at the same time.  Tripp was adopted by friends of the foster parents and now has an Akita brother and a pit sister.
