Cats Available for Adoption

kittenlong.jpg (3571 bytes)

Freedom Farm Animal Sanctuary's cat program takes in cats in need of all shapes, sizes, breeds, colors. Cats are screened for health and temperament before entering the system. Adoption Fee is $105 which includes spay or neuter, shots, deworming, flea prevention, and Feline Leukemia/Aids negative status.  All cats are kept in foster homes until adopted. You can find out even more details about the personalities of the cats by e-mailing the cats' foster home, if the e-mail is listed next to the cat. The cats are displayed at the Rivergate PETsMART.  You may fill out an Adoption Application & Adoption Contract if you are interested in adopting a cat from FFAS. Certain cats have specific requirements, and needs, so not every application will be approved for every cat. This is to ensure that both adopter and adoptee find their best possible match.   It is important to know before considering adopting that FFAS does NOT allow the de-clawing of adopted cats.  For a great explanation as to why, check out  www.declawing.com.  FFAS also does not allow the cats for outdoor habitation, unless under certain pre-approved circumstances.

Currently animals are available for potential adoption through our sponsor Petsmart location in Goodlettsville (Rivergate). Cats are housed on-site at Petsmart's "Luv-A-Pet Center" during business hours. Dogs are brought to these stores on Saturdays from 10 to 2. All potential adopters must submit an FFAS application, be approved, and then sign a contract with stipulations concerning the animal's welfare. FFAS insures a proper fit between the family and their new pet through follow-up contact with the adopter.

For more information on the cat program:  how to volunteer, how to become a foster parent, how to adopt a cat, to be put on a waiting list for a specific type of cat, or how to place a cat on our waiting list for relinquishment, please e-mail Cat Coordinator, Dixie Atherton.

How to adopt me

Emerson My name is Colonel Emerson Lilly. That's because when I was a kitten, my foster mom thought I was a girl. Imagine! When they discovered I was a boy, I needed a very dignified name, 'cause I'm a Tuxedo Kat used to the finer things in life. You can always find me in some elegant pose, it's what I do! I'm not a silly "lap" Kat, but I love to be close to you all the time. I'll sit by you and talk to you a lot. I'm the best company and my manners are impeccible. Emerson and Ellington would love to be adopted together. Having always been together, they've formed a very strong bond. They are also quite the entertainment duo! Please email foster mom Lauren at laurenfinney@comcast.net for info.

Ellington My name is Governor Buford Ellington. I am named after the famous governor who founded the place where I was born, Ellington Agricultural Center. Since my brother Emerson is a Colonel, I deserve status as Governor! I'm a good leader since I tend to be conservative and very laid-back and get along well with other cats. At my foster home, I am the very well-loved ambassador kitty (with excellent manners). Like my brother, Emerson, I'm not a lap cat, but I also love to be near you all the time and will pet you on the head if I'm not getting enough attention. Emerson and Ellington would love to be adopted together. Having always been together, they've formed a very strong bond. They are also quite the entertainment duo! Please email foster mom Lauren at laurenfinney@comcast.net for info.

Pearl Hi, my name is Pearl and I'm a very sweet cat. They tell me I'm 1 1/2 years old. I'm looking for a home where I can get all the attention. I will tolerate a dog but I really don't want to share my home with other cats. I love to sit in your lap and will sleep and snuggle with you. I will beg for attention and talk to you. My foster mom rescued me from a nice company that had been feeding me but I lived outside and kept having babies. Not anymore - I've been spayed and have all my shots. If you're looking for a lap cat, I'm the one. Kit was adopted when she was a small kitten. Her adopters divorced and she stayed with the lady who rented a house that did not allow animals. She was thrown under the crawl space in the house after being used to being inside since she was a kitten. She loves attention, but does not do well with other cats. She would be good in an only cat household. If interested in adopting Kit, call Dixie at 264-9134 or email at dixielee38@comcast.net Click on picture for larger image.

Wyatt is 14 months old and was thrown away in the parking lot of the Springfield Wal-Mart. A lady visiting from California found him, took him to the vet for care as he was very ill, and brought him to FFAS at PetsMart. Wyatt has made a complete recovery from his traumatic beginning and is a lovable boy who likes to cuddle with you at night. He has grown up with other cats, kittens and dogs (both large and small). Call Freedom Farm Hotline at 615.664.2380 for cat line if interested in adopting Wyatt.

Alysa - is a sweet kitty who would prefer to the queen of the house.  but really likes to be the only cat in the house. She loves petting and being fussed over. She enjoys lazing in a sunny window and long naps in bed. But no cages please, those are just too upsetting for her. How to adopt me

Didn't find the perfect cat?   We have lots of other cats and kittens who haven't had a chance to pose for a picture yet.  Kittens adopt very fast, so sometimes it is pointless to post their pictures.   So make sure you visit PETsMART!

Also, check our Courtesy Postings for cats that are not in FFAS's system, but still need a home.  Contact information for each posting is listed next to the picture. All cats listed have been spayed or neutered, but FFAS cannot vouch for the rest of their health status or temperament.

Checkers Checkers, I was named this because of the black spots I have on my fur. I am a male cat, five years old, neutered, and housetrained. Sometimes my Mom says I get a hair and run like crazy, I need more space to do my running and someone to play with. I love to do those things except those other cats that live with me are so old they do not want to play anymore. If you really want to see me run, just get out the vacuum cleaner!! I am a little shy at first, but with some TLC I will warm up to you. I enjoy snuggling, having my ears and belly rubbed when necessary.Drinking water out of the toilet is a must. I have never been around dogs or small children.I could go to a multi-cat household as long as they are about my age so we could play or being an only cat might be the best for me because I love the one-on-one attention. My Mom is willing to help on any adoption fees. Please contact Mom at darlene314@comcast.net or leave message @ 615-730-8514. Click on picture for larger image

Tessa is a not so modest 7 years old female. She loves to talk to anyone that will listen and will let you brush her for hours. Tessa will eat anything thing you let her try. She is declawed on the front paws only. She isn't much for laps put likes to curl up next to humans as often as possible, especially at night. Tessa doesn't travel well and does not enjoy being outside. She LOVES to sit in the window and watch birds. She doesn't play with toys often but does like to sleep on top of things with catnip inside them. She is happiest to be the only kitty in the home. She tends to hide when visitors arrive and runs from children. Does not like dogs. If interested in adopting Tessa please contact April at turnerapril@yahoo.com Click on picture for larger image

Cagney (male black and white) and Lacey (female seal point) came from the same litter born around August of 1997. I got them as kittens in October of 1997. Cagney weighed 17.7 pounds and Lacey weighed 13.6 pounds at the vet visit about a month ago. Cagney loves attention, Lacey is a little more picky. She likes to be petted but she doesn't seek you out as much as Cagney does. Lacey loves to have her belly rubbed, I think maybe the scar from when she was spayed might itch or something, that's the spot she really likes. She also likes to lay under your legs if you make a tent with your knees up under the sheets. Cagney will head butt you to be petted. Both are declawed (front only,) fixed and strictly indoor cats. They like a small amount of Nine Lives canned cat food in the morning, about a teaspoonful, they share it from the same saucer, they like the kind with gravy and bites of chicken, beef or veal. They don't like the ground up variety of cat food. They eat Iams multiple cats dry food the rest of the time. Lacey likes a chicken flavored treat, any variety, when I get home from work. Sometimes Cagney will come to the kitchen for one as well but most of the time he skips it. Cagney is not crazy about other pets but with time he might acclimate. Lacey gets more neurotic as time goes by if she's placed with an unknown cat so they need to go to a home with no other indoor cats or dogs. I have had ferrets in the past that only had limited exposure to the cats and the cats mostly avoided them with no big problems when I let the ferrets out in common areas but the ferrets were not free roam. Neither have had any health issues. Please contact Cathy Pardue at cathyjp7@gmail.com if interested in adopting either or both cats. Click on picture for larger image

Watson is 4 1/2 years old, and is a "big ole sweetie." He weighs over 20 pounds, but is very affectionate. Watson purrs very loudly most of the time. This guy LOVES to play with toys and chase bubbles. When all his toys end up under the couch he will take food out the his bowl and bat it around the kitchen floor. He can get pretty vocal when his food bowl is empty, but only eats about 2/3 cup of food per day. Watson has to have a special cat food that is available over the counter for digestive issues. Watson has all his claws but does great using a scratching post. He loves to play with other cats and is VERY gentle with children. Watson needs another kitty to play with or an energetic child in the home. No exposure to dogs or outdoors. His bother Sherlock may be adopted with him. If interested in adopting Watson please contact April at turnerapril@yahoo.com Click on picture for larger image
